Our story

George grew up on farms near Junee and Cootamundra. Studying, working and raising daughters in nearby Canberra for many years, he stayed involved with his family’s farmlands, planting trees and keeping bees. Seán was raised on a sheep and mixed cropping farm in Wairarapa, Aotearoa/New Zealand, on the whenua (lands) of the Ngati Kuhungunu people. He has worked in community based natural resource management in Aoteoroa and the Northern Territory, and as an academic based in Canberra.

In 2021 we moved to a farm near Junee, owned by George’s family, to establish Reedy Creek Providore. On this farm, George’s brother Chris and his partner Lucy produce beef cattle in a regenerative, strategic grazing system. For years we have replanted common reed (Phragmities australis, dyiriil in the local Wiradjuri language) along the intermittent creek which curves through the paddocks. Reed warblers and the rare Australasian bittern are now breeding in the flourishing reed beds. Reedy Creek Providore is named after the reed that is helping regenerate the living systems of this beautiful place.
